How do we address the apparent decrease in student creativity, imagination and general literacy skills. In a world which is so reliant on technology do we need to take a step back to old school teaching techniques to develop the skills required. This made it sound like the complaint of a jaded DT teacher: Kids these days are just not as creative as they used to be … However, researchers have shown their findings to confirm just this. An American based research panel found that levels of ‘creativity’ had decreased among children. It stated that since 1990, children were found to have less of a sense of humour and were less able to produce unique and unusual ideas. In 2021 PISA put together a Creative Thinking Framework to research and define post covid difficulties. Has the modern society and expectations extinguished the creative spark among our youth? Experts say creativity is innate, so it can't really be lost. But it does need to be nurtured.

When it comes to wellbeing, teachers suffer mostly from two interconnected problems - poor mental health, and musculoskeletal pain. The impacts are significant, because teachers cannot do their best, most creative work when they are not physically well. Often, too, because of the stress of their jobs, teachers have grown so used to not being in their best form that they don’t know that they could feel any different. This active and supportive workshop focuses on musculoskeletal pain and how changing the way that teachers stand, sit, and walk in simple ways can help them to self-manage their physical wellbeing and in turn make some long lasting changes to how the children they teach also take care of their physical wellbeing.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the Lesson Study Strategy on classroom practices for a group of 45 male and female university students. The research also included seeking the opinions of 24 faculty members on the effectiveness of the strategy in improving classroom practices. The study used a semi-experimental approach based on a single group, and a descriptive approach through faculty members' views on the Lesson Study Strategy. Two questionnaires were prepared for faculty members and students to assess classroom practices. The findings showed statistically significant differences between the pre and post-application results, favouring the post-application in the questionnaire of classroom practices for university students after applying the Lesson Study Strategy. Additionally, the study revealed that faculty members agreed on the effectiveness of the Lesson Study Strategy in improving classroom practices for university students.

13 Nov 2024 - 13:50 to 14:10 Innovative Approaches in Maths Education: Empowering Individual Learning Styles and Accessibility Innovative Approaches in Maths Education: Empowering Individual Learning Styles and Accessibility Europe/London public

In this presentation, I'll share innovative methods for making maths education more personalised and accessible. First, I'll discuss a case study about an 11th grade student who excels in maths through drawing, despite being seen as a low achiever. By integrating her love for drawing into maths lessons, as her understanding and engagement significantly improved. Next, I'll introduce a new tool for visually impaired students ( a cube with Braille ). This cube helps them understand maths graphs better than the traditional method of teachers drawing in their hands, enhancing their ability to remember and grasp concepts and let them feel more confident. This to inspire teachers to look for challenges and find solutions to enhance learning for our future leaders , not only teach and leave. These examples highlight the importance of adapting teaching methods to fit individual learning styles and needs. As personalised and inclusive approaches can unlock every student's potential.

My previous batch students always thank me for this event and they share their photos of participation in the international business expos held in various nations with immense pride. I take it as a platinum chance to share this concept with others and hopes to conduct this event as an International, interschool contest in the future.

Imagine a classroom buzzing with curious young minds, their hands busy with experiments, building structures, and exploring the world around them. This isn't just a dream; it's the future of early childhood education where STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - plays a central role. Research by the National Science Foundation (NSF, 2022) shows that early exposure to STEM fosters a love of learning in these fields, potentially leading to a future generation brimming with innovators. However, many early childhood programs haven't fully embraced STEM integration. In this article we delve into the benefits of introducing STEM in the early years and provide practical strategies to spark curiosity and build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

As primary educators, we often rely on traditional reward systems to engage, motivate and manage student behaviour. However, my journey in teaching has led me to question the effectiveness of these conventional methods. In this session, drawing from years of transformative teaching practices and extensive research, I explore the impact of behaviour management systems on the well-being and social-emotional learning (SEL) of young students. Informed by Alfie Kohn's work, the session explores alternative approaches to conventional reward systems while prioritising intrinsic motivation. The interactive session with online polls and a digital collaboration board aims to empower educators to create a positive and growth-oriented classroom that encourages a love for learning beyond external incentives. Participants will be able to explore and implement alternative approaches to rewards that align with a nurturing classroom.
