Steve Bambury has worked in education and training for 20 years. In 2016 he became the first Head of Digital Learning and Innovation across the JESS school group before moving on to work as an education consultant in 2019. This included an extended engagement within New Media Academy where he led on education strategy and immersive technology and coordinated the deployment of the first virtual campus in The Middle East. Steve has won awards from Apple, Microsoft, GESS, BETT and EdTech Digest for his working integrating technology in learning and professional development. In 2017, he hosted the worlds first professional development sessions inside virtual reality and in 2018 he co-hosted the worlds first global lesson inside VR alongside Pixar co-founder Loren Carpenter. In 2024 he returned to JESS Dubai to help lead the school into a new era of AI-enriched education.

In this session, two-time GESS Award winner Steve Bambury reflects on the past 15 years of edtech at JESS Dubai from being one of the first schools in the Middle East to roll out iPads in the classroom to launching the region's first 1:1 Microsoft Surface program and more. Steve will also explore the impact of COVID on edtech and look ahead to the role AI will play in redefining digital learning at JESS.
We will discuss the implementation of systems to enforce our phone free environment in school. Why we have taken this approach, the impact it has had and why we feel it is an important topic for all schools to address.

In this session, Steve will share his experience harnessing the Microsoft Copilot AI suite to create unique learning experiences for students. This will include live demos of Copilot as well as Microsoft Designer and other AI tools available within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
