Hamdan Award winners announced in Dubai
The best and the brightest schools, pupils, teachers and even families are being awarded cash prizes after being named winners of a prestigious education award.
The winners of the 16th annual Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award were announced at the Ministry of Education in Dubai on Tuesday.
“The award is a way of leading the field of education to reach his excellency’s levels,” said Dr Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Hamdan Award. “His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum established this award 16 years ago.
“The vision was, instead of waiting for the ministries and the directors to encourage everybody to do something good for this field of education, why not raise the bar?
“So we put a bar on the level of excellency for teachers, school administrations, parents, and we ask everybody to participate in the award to reach that level.”
There are four levels to the competition – international, Arab region, GCC and UAE. Within each level, there are several categories – best education research in the Arab region, excellent teacher, excellent student, excellent school management, best scientific innovation and even best family.
Mr Al Suwaidi said 123 applications were entered for the international award, 46 for the Arab region, 65 for the GCC and 425 in the UAE.
The applications were judged by a jury made up of 52 local educators representing different universities.
The winners will be honoured at a special ceremony in Dubai on April 22.
