The British University in Dubai (BUiD) Starts New Academic Year with Record for overall Intake and Local Numbers in the Doctoral Programmes

New postgraduate students on programmes in Business, Education, Engineering and IT have attended the Induction Day at BUiD . They were welcomed by the University's Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdullah Alshamsi along with the Academics and staff.

Prof. Abdullah welcomed the new students and said: "As a research-based institute, BUiD is very proud to welcome you. We will continue to give all the support you need to help you achieve your goals. BUiD offers world class education and gives you access to some of the best resources provided in conjunction with our associate Universities."

Mr. Martin Prince, BUiD 's Registrar, advised the students at induction that the University is pleased and proud to work with them in their learning from staff, the wider Dubai Environment, their peers and from their own experience in addressing the exciting challenges and opportunities provided by the ambitious development of Dubai, the Nation and the wider region.

This year BUiD enrolled a record number of students in the Doctoral Programmes. Among 160 students registered this semester in the postgraduateprogrammes, more than forty new students are enrolled on the PhD and EdDDoctoral Programmes. BUiD , which was established by a Ruler'sdecree in 2003, took the lead and was the first to launch the accredited Doctorate of Education programme in the UAE and this year has witnessed the graduation of its second cohort with 50% of the new doctors being Emiratis.
BUiD has expanded its doctoral offers to four programmes. In addition to the Doctorate of Education, it offers PhD in Project Management, PhD in Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment, and PhD in Computer Science. It also offers Masters Programmes and is looking to launch a new MSc in Engineering Management after completing the final stage of the necessary approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, expected this term.

There are around 651 active registered students in different postgraduates' programmes from a host of different nationalities and thisyear's registration hasshowed an increase in the numbers of students from India , with overall figures around 30% Emiratis, 30% from the Arab World, 25% from the sub-continent and 15% other nationalities.
BUiD offers students who are enrolled on a probationary condition support to diagnose and improve their academic skills, as well for passing their IELTS test through its intensive IELTS Preparation course.This helps students prepare for and pass the exams and makes their study experience a more productive and enjoyable journey.

BUiD continues to support the UAE's aim of developing a truly of knowledge-based economy, by adding new needed programmes and supporting professionals to get their degrees while working. BUiD is a very vibrant place in the evenings as all classes are offered at 6:00pm during the week while Saturdays are very busy daysas a lot of classes take place in order to help the students ( including our large contingent from education sector)to fit their study plans in their busy work schedules.
