Abu Dhabi's sporting youngsters triumph in international schools contest

A team of young sports men and women from Abu Dhabi's British School have triumphed in an international sporting contest in the Arabian Gulf.

Under-13 teams from the British School Al Khubairat topped the prestigious British Schools Middle East Tournament, held in Oman, coming first among 12 schools from Cairo, Bahrain, Dharan, Dubai, Kurwait, Muscat and Riyadh.

In three days of competition, BSAK teams won both the girls and boys football tournaments, and the overall athletics event, held at the Sultan Qaboos National Stadium, with medals in track, field and relay events.

"Our luggage on the journey back was a lot heavier and the metal detectors at the airport would have been working overtime," said Head Coach Maddison Fern. "What was especially pleasing was that everyone contributed: every member of the team did something that they will be able to remember, making a difference to the result."
