Picks of the week from across the Twitter-sphere

'Picks of the week' brings you our favourite educational discovers from the gold-mine that is Twitter. Whether you're looking to build your professional network, get some professional development ideas, discover resources and tips for your next class or promote your school community it's a pretty good bet you'll be able to do all four in just a few scrolls.

#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

As this week is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we wanted to share this lovely technique we came across on #EduTwitter recently.

The 54321 technique is a super quick and easy way for us to remember to practice being mindful and to connect immediately with the present moment.

You can try it with your class at the start or end of a busy day and will even work during remote learning.

#LearnLiveUAE

#LearnLiveUAE is the new YouTube channel and weekly live stream brought to you by 2 very familiar faces from the UAE #EduTwitter sphere, Mark Anderson @ICTEvangelist and Olly Lewis @OLewis_Coaching.

You can join Mark and Olly, every Monday evening at 5pm BST / 8pm GST to explore a range of educational issues that focusses on what’s going on in UAE schools.

So far topics have included tips for successful online learning outcomes, safer digital ecosystems in Schools and how VR/AR will transform education.

You can find out more and subscribe to the channel to make sure you never miss a stream here

Podcast from Pobble - The Huddle

Back in 2017, Pobble were first-time exhibitors at GESS Dubai and coming out on top of the Best Paid for ICT / App Product at the GESS Education Awards.

Fast-forward 3 years and Pobble are going from strength to strength. They were recently recognised by leading educational experts having been included in the @educationgovuk's list of free online educational resources to support schools & parents with home learning.

We’ve really enjoyed listening to Pobble’s podcast, The Huddle during lockdown. Episode 2 came out last week, discussing SEN support during school closures and suggestions for getting the kids off screens.

You can listen to both episodes so far here

The Pobble blog is also a great read, packed full of tips and ideas on how to get the most out of their superb digital writing resource, but also important trends from the wider world of education.

#SuffixRap

One of our favourite mini trends emerging on Twitter recently has been the “Suffix Raps” we’ve been watching and listening to.

Students get to show their creative side as well learn the importance of grammar.

Our favourite was this from UAE based teacher @CBlackwood_89's year 4 class.
