Pitsco's STEM in the Gym™ earns international GESS Education Award
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (March 7, 2016) – Pitsco Education's popular STEM in the Gym™ – Simple Machines Package earned a coveted GESS Education Award at the international education conference held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, March 1-3, 2016.
Judges selected STEM in the Gym from among seven finalists in the category of Best Product to Promote Health and Fitness in the Classroom.
"STEM in the Gym goes well beyond serving as an elementary solution for physical education classes," said Pitsco Education President Lisa Paterni. "It introduces concepts such as mechanical advantage, force, and load through activities in the gym that are detailed in the accompanying curriculum. What's better than children learning STEM during PE class while also improving their fitness level?"
The STEM in the Gym program was designed and created by Cindy Jones, winner of several national awards. The program enables elementary-age students to experience each simple machine while learning about force, load, work, and more. The package includes curriculum and equipment to implement the complete program in the gym. The durable equipment designed to withstand years of use includes wedges, seesaw levers, screw hatches, pulleys, big gears, and wheel-and-axle devices that students use. A STEM in the Gym – Simple Machines book and DVD guide teachers through the setup and implementation of seven physical activities that provide students with a kinesthetic lesson in simple machines.
The Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) group sponsors conferences around the world, including in the Middle East where several of Pitsco's partners offer STEM in the Gym and other Pitsco proprietary products such as the TETRIX® Building System and the Straw Rocket Launcher.
According to GESS, its awards "highlight and reward the quality and diversity of educational products, resources, services, and people as well as the best educational establishments and the most dedicated members of the teaching profession."
Withstanding the scrutiny of an international panel of judges, STEM in the Gym proved its cross-cultural appeal and versatility. Accepting the award on behalf of Pitsco were International Sales Manager Mohit Abraham and Robotics Application Specialist Tim Lankford.
"It was an honor to receive a GESS Award, particularly considering the strong field of international competition that STEM in the Gym was facing," said Abraham. "Pitsco works closely with many international partners to offer STEM in the Gym and similar hands-on products for students of all ages."
